The S2000 sports a powerful, 2.2-liter, high revving engine while the high X-bone monocoque frame provides excellent rigidity and load distribution. Body rigidity is crucial to good handling in an open-top roadster, so Honda engineers designed a highly rigid monocoque frame for the S2000. The heart of the structure is a large central tunnel that runs down the middle of the cockpit, which serves as the backbone and main load-bearing structure for the vehicle. The body’s high side sills and innovative diagonal (X-bone) bracing at the front and rear of the cockpit provide additional rigidity. Suspension and drive loads from the wheels are fed directly into this structure via highly rigid subframes at the front and rear of the vehicle.

Also available is the S2000 CR. This factory-tuned, lighter weight S2000 CR provides more aggressive and track-oriented suspension settings, increased body and chassis rigidity and aerodynamic spoilers tuned for reduced lift and enhanced balance at high track-racing speeds. A purist’s dream, the factory-tuned CR sports an aerodynamic design and stiffer suspension settings for increased rigidity and downforce. While the anti-lock braking system (ABS) helps you maintain steering control during hard stops, the power-assisted 4-wheel disc brakes and Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with traction control add a further measure of stopping power and sure-footedness. The S2000 offers added protection thanks to side-impact door beams and other body reinforcements to door pads, side sills and floor of the cockpit. Working in tandem with Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®), the Drive-by-Wire throttle system replaces a conventional throttle arrangement with an all-electronic system that senses the throttle pedal position and relays that information to a computer. The computer then performs the actual throttle activation instantaneously. Working with ABS and the Drive-by-Wire™ throttle system, VSA enhances stability by detecting oversteer or understeer, and by braking individual wheels and/or reducing throttle to help restore the driver’s intended path of travel.
